Primate is an advisory write-up about a family that had to battle for their lives when a cherished member of the family gets infected with rabies, making the other members enemies. One of the biological order of lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans are primates. These creatures can be calm or cruel. When primates are used in movies as cruel creatures, it makes the write-up interesting and a better one.

Running Time: 89 minutes

In Hawaii, a Chimpanzee named Ben (Miguel Torres Umba) has been raised at a house in a remote area with Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) and her sister Erin (Gia Hunter). The girls are the daughters of a Linguistics professor. In order to communicate with other members of the family, Ben was taught a sign language. After staying with the family although after the passing away of their mother, a linguistic professor, Ben contracts rabies after battling and being bitten by a mongoose.

The director of the movie (Johannes Roberts) knows the relevance of creating suspense and purposely adds scenes that look as if they are in slow-paced for the purposes of intensifying uncomfortable scenes in the film. The director tries to include humorous moments to make the movie’s audience enjoy some comfortability before introducing the horror moments of the movie.

With mostly talented new actors and actresses, acting terrified scenes when Ben is in view is an enormous job. Watching the movie from the start, Sequoyah played the leading role simply like an experienced actor. Not forgetting the interesting roles played by Gia Hunter, Jess Alexander, Benjamin Cheng and Victoria Wyant. To add more spice to the story, Ben being played by Miguel Torres Umba is the key star of the moment. He is very real and incredibly playing the behavior and movements of a chimpanzee.

There are some cons which can’t be overlooked notwithstanding all the positives, there were some predictable and unpolish scenes, it was definitely a green screen background the moment one of the victims goes over the cliff. In addition, there are lots of bloody kills, at times, doing a lot is simply more than enough.

Verdict

Primate could have been premiered later in the year because it has some impactful scenes and is generally enjoyable for fans of horror films, that said, it’s far from being a masterpiece.

As far as horror films go, Primate has a great cast and lots of suspense and blood. It is also made of few really horrific deaths and some comic relief. On the whole, this movie should give you satisfaction if you are a horror movie fun.
