The 2024 Motorola Moto G 5G looks encouraging when you first set eyes on it, offering a good battery life and a large screen. Despite this, it’s not strongly competitive because it has a minimal software support, an average performance and average cameras. Motorola has long been capable at making reasonable trade-offs to keep its Moto G series affordable.

The Motorola Moto G 5G is a bit smaller as compared to other phone models like the Galaxy A15, it measures 6.47 by 2.95 by 0.32 inches (HWD) and weighs 6.84 ounces, whiles the Galaxy A15 measures 6.30 by 3.02 by 0.33 inches and weighs 7.09 ounces.

We found out that the selfie camera is simple to recognize but you struggle to read the screen of the Motorola Moto G 5G under direct sunlight though the colors are good to use when indoors.

The back housing of the Motorola Moto G 5G is covered with a Sage Green – Vegan leather. The entire look of the phone is kept and made clean by the Vegan-leather covering of the raised camera component, and it makes the phone actually secured and ok to handle due to the Vegan-leather material

The Motorola Moto G 5G features a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom edge, alongside a down-firing speaker plus a USB-C port for charging. We had a test on MTN, the coverage wasn’t all that strong though an average of 109.3Mbps and 26.4Mbps was pulled and pushed respectively. The person on the other line can be heard clearly no matter the noisy at the background, and this gives a clear quality of call. The Motorola Moto G 5G also supports WiFi 5, though it doesn’t do well with newer versions like WiFi 7.

The Motorola Moto G 5G features a main camera of a 50MP sensor at f/1.8 that limits shot to 12.5MP. A supporting 2MP macro camera at f/2.4 with a front-facing 8MP camera for selfies helps you to get the best shots you want. One issue I realized about this phone is the camera app which has a Standard and Macro modes, to add to that, the main camera has a difficulty capturing high-quality features under bright light. We were somehow amazed with the selfie camera for an incredible shot. The video quality of the camera isn’t all that different from taking still pictures even though you can have a full HD resolution video recording. 

Verdict

The Motorola Moto G 5G (2024) is an affordable phone with an endurable battery life, however, it falls short with regards to inconsistent camera quality. You can opt for a less expensive gadget but be prepared to have slower performance with low resolution and display brightness.
